Privacy policy — GPS Speed
Last updated: July 15, 2026 · App ID: com.diyomx.gpsspeed (Android, iOS, HarmonyOS)
This policy describes how DIYOMX (“we”, “Developer”) handles information when you use the GPS Speed mobile app. It applies to the free and Pro versions, including Google Play pre-registration rewards.
1) Summary
- GPS Speed shows approximate speed from your device’s location sensors while you use the app.
- We do not require a sign-in account (email/password). For purchase verification we may use a Firebase anonymous identifier on your device.
- Most trip and preference data stays on your device.
- Free use may include ads (Google AdMob). We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to improve stability.
- Google Play pre-registration is processed by Google; we receive reward status only after you install and the store delivers the in-app reward.
- We do not sell your personal data for our own marketing.
2) Data we process
Location (precise)
- What: GPS/GNSS coordinates and derived speed, heading, altitude (when available), and accuracy estimates.
- When: While the app is in use and you have granted location permission. The app requests location while in use only — it does not request always-on / background location access on Android or iOS.
- Optional foreground notification (Android): If you enable “Show speed in notification”, a foreground service may keep a live speed notification while GPS tracking is active. This is not the same as background location tracking.
- Why: Core speedometer, optional speed-limit alerts, trip stats, widgets, and Android Auto / CarPlay display.
- Storage: Processed on-device. Saved trips and preferences are stored locally until you delete them.
- Sharing: Map tiles may load from third-party tile servers when you view trip maps. We do not send your live location to those servers for speed-limit lookup.
Device or other identifiers (advertising)
- What: Advertising ID (where available and permitted), ad interaction data.
- Why: Show and measure ads in the free version.
- Provider: Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads SDK.
- Your choices: Device ad settings; in-app ad consent (UMP on Android / iOS where shown); reset or limit ad ID in system settings.
App interactions & diagnostics
- What: App events (e.g. screen views, feature usage), crash logs, performance data, app version.
- Why: Analytics and crash reporting to improve reliability.
- Providers: Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics.
Purchase & entitlement information
- What: Subscription and in-app purchase status (including pre-registration reward
pre_reg_reward and optional founder SKUs).
- Why: Unlock Pro features, apply pre-registration trials, and remove ads.
- Processing: Handled by Apple App Store or Google Play. Entitlements are verified via our Firebase backend; we receive product IDs, subscription status, and a hashed purchase token — not payment card details.
- Anonymous ID: The app may sign in anonymously to Firebase to associate entitlements with your install. This ID is not your email or name.
- Pre-registration trial state: Expiry timestamps for the 14-day Pro trial and 30-day founder-offer window are stored locally on your device after the Play reward is granted.
Google Play pre-registration
- What: If you pre-register on Google Play, Google processes your pre-registration (account, country, opt-in for auto-install).
- When we receive data: After launch, when you install the app and Google Play delivers the pre-registration reward through in-app billing.
- Why: Grant the launch reward and optional founder pricing described in our Terms of Use.
- Provider: Google Play. See Google’s Privacy Policy for how Google handles Play account data.
Push notifications (optional)
- What: Device push token if you allow notifications.
- Why: Firebase Cloud Messaging for optional app messages.
3) How we use data
- Provide and improve app features you enable.
- Show ads in the free tier and measure ad performance.
- Diagnose crashes and understand aggregate usage.
- Validate subscriptions and pre-registration rewards through the app stores and Firebase entitlement verification.
4) Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
Where GDPR applies: location for core features — contract / legitimate interest (providing the service you requested); ads — consent where required; analytics/crash — legitimate interest in maintaining a secure, working app. You may withdraw ad consent without losing core speed features.
5) Sharing with third parties
- Google (AdMob, Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, FCM, Cloud Functions): as described above, under Google’s policies.
- Apple / Google: purchase and subscription processing.
- We do not sell personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising on our own behalf.
6) Retention
- On-device trip history and settings remain until you delete them or uninstall the app.
- Analytics and crash data are retained per Firebase default periods unless you request deletion through us.
- Ad partners retain data per their policies.
7) Security
We use industry-standard transport encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for network requests. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
8) Children
GPS Speed is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9) Your choices & rights
- Revoke location or notification permissions in device settings.
- Delete saved trips in the app.
- Manage subscriptions in Apple or Google account settings.
- Adjust ad personalization in device and in-app consent settings.
- Data deletion: email diyomx@gmail.com with subject “GPS Speed data deletion” and your approximate request date / store account country. We will delete or request deletion of data we control (e.g. Firebase anonymous entitlement records associated with your install) within a reasonable period, subject to legal retention and store platform records we cannot erase.
- Contact us to request access, correction, or restriction where applicable law provides these rights.
10) International transfers
Service providers (Google, map tile providers) may process data in countries other than yours. They provide appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law.
11) Changes
We may update this policy by posting a new version on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in-app where appropriate.
